The Pertuis Breton site in the vicinity of the Marennes-Oleron bay is a macrotidal environment.

It is only in the last 10 years that this site has been used to culture mussels (Mytilus edulis and M. galloprovincialis).

Mussels are cultured using longlines and annual production is 55,000 tonnes
