Loch Creran is located on the west coast of Scotland. It is a sea loch, with calm, sheltered water conditions and an average depth in the range of 20-30m. Water temperatue shows an annual range of 5 - 15C and the salinity range is 28-32.5psu.

The species cultivated here is atlantic salmon, Salmo salar, with and annual production of 2000 tonnes.

Loch Creran is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

The fieldwork at Loch Creran was carried out by the Scottish Association for Marine Science, the ECASA Project Coordinator. Loch Creran has been the sites of previous EU projects, see www.sams.ac.uk for more information
