The Ria Formosa is a shallow lagoon in the Algarve, Southern Portugal, opening into the Atlantic Ocean. The lagoon is tidally energetic and a large part is dry at low water.

The annual production for clams in the Ria Formosa is 8000 tonnes

The Ria Formosa has been the subject of many other projects, e.g. OAERRE.
